Time to introduce the blue spruce

Rapid City has received its Christmas tree in Main Street Square

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Main Street Square had a special arrival Tuesday, and it stands almost 35 feet tall.

A blue spruce tree, donated by a local resident off of Nemo Road, has been transported to Downtown Rapid City in time for the holiday season.

The Rapid City Police Department provided an escort to Main Street Square where D and W Crane safely lifted the tree into place.

Elizabeth Smith, executive director of Main Street Square, talked about the excitement surrounding the arrival of the tree.

“Following it down from Nemo Road today, people stopped on the side of the road; children were waving at the tree and taking pictures,” Smith explained. “Everyone looks forward to it each year, and it’s just a wonderful feeling.”

The tree will be decorated Friday by Kennedy Window Cleaning. A lighting ceremony with Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender will be held promptly at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Those who are looking to attend are encouraged to show up at least 15-20 minutes early, as the countdown will begin right before 5 p.m. NewsCenter1 will stream the tree lighting ceremony on air and online. Stay tuned for details on our live coverage.
