Thune meets with Air Force Secretary nominee Wilson

After a meeting Wednesday on Capitol Hill, U.S. Sen. John Thune expressed his support for President Donald Trump’s nominee to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Heather Wilson. Wilson is currently the President of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Thune cited the cooperation between the School of Mines and Ellsworth Air Force Base as well as the benefits of Wilson’s connections to South Dakota:Wilson served in the Air Force from 1982-1989 and is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 and served until 2009.

"She really understands the issues when it comes to national security. She’s got a great local understanding of the issues that are important to South Dakota, works closely with Ellsworth Air Force Base on projects now and understands how important that base is to our national security interests."

Wilson’s confirmation hearing is expected to take place later this month.
