Three test positive for COVID-19 in Oyate Health Center mass testing event

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Results are back from the Oyate Health Center’s first mass COVID-19 testing.

The testing was held on Saturday, June 20 for anyone eligible to receive care from Indian Health Services. 178 people were tested, three came back positive. The Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Health Board says its happy with the turn out.

“We are trying to be as responsive as we can to the pandemic and get as many of our beneficiaries tested as possible,” said Brandon Ecoffey, the Communications Director of the Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Health Board.

To date, the Oyate Health Center has seen 114 positive cases of COVID-19. They’re planning at least two more testing events in the near future.
