The adults and the child were home at the time of the fire, but they were able to make it out in time.

Officials also said that tall, dry grasses near the house could have posed a threat of a brush fire, but favorable weather conditions prevented it.

“Luckily today, we didn’t have any wind that would have driven the flames that way, and we got a quick enough knockdown of the fire,” said Box Elder Asst. Fire Chief Adam Kuenkel. “We didn’t have anything endangering any other exposures or anything else like that.”

Crews from Box Elder, Rapid City, North Haines, and Ellsworth Air Force Base all responded to the call.

There were no injuries in the fire. Its cause is under investigation.
