Thousands raised to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Northwestern Mutual of Rapid City held its second Strike Out Cancer event this weekend to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a nonprofit foundation that helps the families of child cancer patients with everything from travel costs to treatment costs.
This year’s Strike Out Cancer event was held at Meadowood Lanes on Sunday. Organizers of the event say that supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand is important for Rapid City families who have a child with cancer, as many have to travel to Minneapolis or Denver for their child to receive treatment.
Spencer Gossel of Northwestern Mutual Engagement and Advancement says that the foundation stands apart from other nonprofit groups that benefit cancer research.
“With all the other foundations that are out there and all the money that gets raised every year, only four per cent of that national average is actually allocated to pediatric cancer,” Spencer says. But Alex’s Lemonade Stand allocates all proceeds to pediatric cancer research.
This year’s Strike Out Cancer event raised over $10,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, over double the amount raised last year.
