The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office needs your help, here’s how

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office is asking for donations.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Around this time of year, for the last several years, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has asked for donations of different items.

Where will the donated items go?

The items will be distributed between the Pennington County Jail, the Juvenile Center, and Health and Human Services.

What items are needed?

“New or gently used hats, mittens, gloves, coats, any of them items would work very well to help our folks. Then also in our jail. Same type of scenario. Hats, mittens, new underwear, socks,” said Willie Whelchel, Chief Deputy for Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Hats
  2. Gloves/Mittens
  3. Jackets
  4. New underwear
  5. New socks
  6. DVDs (not R rated)
  7. Games (like Monopoly, chess, or other card/board games)

Why should I donate?

Often, people enter the county’s facilities without many possessions. For people leaving the facilities in the winter, this can be very difficult. This is why warm clothes are needed. Socks and underwear are nice because the people leaving the various facilities need some new ones.

As for the DVDs and games, they are used as behavior incentives.

Where can I bring my donations?

Donations will be accepted at the Pennington County Public Safety and Admin buildings on Kansas City Street in Rapid City.
