Teens charged in shooting death get sentencing dates

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The second of two teens charged with shooting and killing a Box Elder teen in February has plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

Andre Martinez, 20, of Rapid City had initially been charged with robbery in the first-degree and conspiracy to commit a felony for the shooting death of Emmanuel Hinton, 17.

On February 26, 2019, Hinton was shot in the alleyway behind Blaine Avenue and later died from his injuries at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. Cole Waters, 20, of Rapid City and Martinez were both arrested and charged the next day. Waters was charged with felony murder/murder in the first-degree, robbery in the first-degree, and conspiracy to commit a felony, and he also plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

They could face a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Sentencing for Martinez is set on December 16 at 8 a.m. and Waters is set for sentencing on the same day at 1 p.m.
