Teen dies in crash in Brookings County

WHITE, S.D. — One person died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle crash five miles north of White, South Dakota.

The 18-year-old male driver was southbound on 478th Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway and eventually hit a tree.

According to the release from the Department of Public Safety, he was the only occupant in the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, and he was wearing a seat belt. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The name of the person involved is not being released pending notification of family members. South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is further investigating the crash.
