Teen accused in ax murder pleads not guilty

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The teen accused of slaying a Bennett County man and then setting his house on fire has pleaded not guilty in federal court.

Emery Arapahoe III is charged with second-degree murder, arson, first-degree burglary and larceny after the 2017 death of Ray Waters, Jr.

If convicted, Arapahoe could get a life sentence.

Waters was found with wounds around his head and neck likely from an ax.
