Suspicious vehicle stopped at Ellsworth Air Force Base; person sent to Monument Health

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE — A suspicious vehicle stop occurred at the Ellsworth Air Force Base main gate. A person has been sent to Monument Health for evaluation.

Ellsworth sent a Facebook post around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, telling people to avoid the main gate. Personnel have told NewsCenter1 one that it was a suspicious vehicle stop. Box Elder Police took over the investigation and transferred a person to Monument Health.

The main gate was closed, but as of 8:30 p.m Sunday night, the scene has been cleared and the main gate opened. The gate was closed for a total of four hours.

As a precautionary measure, a perimeter was set up around the area and members of the 28th Civil Engineer Ordnance Disposal inspected the suspect’s vehicle, but nothing suspicious was found. Officials determined there was no threat.

NewsCenter1 will provide updates as they are made available.
