Suspect charged in Memorial Park homicide

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police Department officers were dispatched to the pond at Memorial Park around 6:50 p.m. Monday evening for a report of a man holding another man down in the water.

Officers were informed that the victim was still underwater in an unknown location within the pond when they arrived, and a water rescue team was called in to help locate the victim. A passerby who witnessed the altercation also jumped into the water to help locate the victim.

The suspect in the incident was identified by witnesses and quickly detained by police. He has been identified as 27-year-old Walter Mousseau Jr. of Pine Ridge.

Mousseau Jr. was taken to the Public Safety Building and interviewed by RCPD officers and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. Mousseau Jr. was placed under arrest for first degree murder after the interview, and he was transported to the Pennington County Jail.

The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Sheldon Glenn of Rapid City.

The investigation is currently active and ongoing and it is believed alcohol is a factor. It is being forwarded to the Pennington County States Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
