Sunday night house fire in Belle Fourche claims life of 77-year-old male

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — A house fire on Sunday night claimed the life of a 77-year-old Belle Fourche resident.

The call came in at 5:41 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 to a home on Prairie Hills Road in the southwest city limits of Belle Fourche.

Belle Fourche Fire and Ambulance, Nisland Fire Department, and Spearfish Fire, along with Belle Fourche Police, Butte County Sheriff’s Office and several agencies in Lawrence County responded to the call.

Upon arriving at the scene, crews discovered the house completely engulfed in flames.

Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere says that the fire started in relation to a fireplace and is currently under investigation.
