Sturgis welcomes ice cream parlor to business community

STURGIS, S.D. — A new ice cream parlor was officially welcomed into the Sturgis business community on Monday.

Emma 1The Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon cutting for Emma’s Ice Cream Emporium at 1063 Main Street.

Owner Amy Grobes and her husband were married in Sturgis during the rally in 2005 and have always dreamed of opening a business in the city. After COVID shutdowns began in their home state of Nevada, they purchased and renovated the Main Street building.

Based on a survey from residents, they decided to open an ice cream parlor. Emma’s opened last August and the owners say the community has been very supportive.

“We saw the building, we’re like let’s be a part of the rally,” says Amy Grobes. “But as business people and small town- to see what Main Street is like in winter, I said we will be open year round.”

The inspiration for the business’s name comes from the Grobes’ English Bulldog, Emma.
