Sturgis hosts Third Annual AMA Supermoto Race this weekend

Riders are gathering in Sturgis this weekend for the Third Annual American Motorcyclist Association Supermoto Race.

The race has been a hit the past two years, which is why Sturgis is welcoming back pro and amateur riders for a weekend of racing, charity and fun. Top participant riders will be taking part in the 2015 National Championship Series, in hopes of earning enough points at Sturgis to make it forward in the series. The supermoto track is designed to be a mix of road racing and motocross.

"It's asphalt and dirt, in front of the Knuckle. We have some decent sized jumps. There'll be jumps down at the Loud also, so definitely those are a crowd favorite. You also see the higher speeds on the asphalt and the guys – the racers – will be sliding their bikes into the corners – it's definitely something cool to watch," explained Matt Stewart, the Chief of Operations of AMA Supermoto.

A charity pre-race party will be held at the Knuckle Saloon Friday night, with proceeds going to the Sturgis Fire Department. Saturday night, riders will do burnouts in front of the Loud American, followed by a karaoke night. The event is free for the public.
