Sturgis businesses sustain significant damage in overnight fire

STURGIS, S.D. — Multiple Sturgis businesses, including Weimer’s Diner & Donuts, suffered significant damage in a fire early Wednesday morning.

Crews from the Sturgis and Whitewood Volunteer Fire Departments arrived at the scene of a fire on the 1100 block of Main Street in Sturgis at approximately 2:30 AM, according to a Facebook post from Meade County Emergency Management.

The fire caused significant damage to multiple businesses before being brought under control.

Authorities suspect the fire was started by a faulty AC unit, but the cause still under investigation. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Other responders included Sturgis EMS, Sturgis PD and Meade County Emergency Management.
