Sturgis brothers to compete at Indian National Finals Rodeo

STURGIS, S.D. – Jackson and Kashton Ford are no strangers when it comes to competing in rodeos across South Dakota.

But this week, the brothers from Sturgis have an opportunity to compete on a national stage.

Kashton and Jackson are gearing up to compete at the Indian National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

The brothers just returned from Sioux Falls where they participated in the South Dakota Rodeo Association Finals.

Kashton, who’s 16-years old, was crowned the 2022 SDRA bareback riding champion and the SDRA Rookie of the Year.

Meanwhile, 17-year old Jackson won all three rounds along with the average and finished runner-up in the saddle bronc at the SDRA finals.

A send-off party was held on Oct. 13 at the Sturgis Brewing Company for Kashton and Jackson.

This will be the first time that the brothers have ever qualified for the Indian National Finals Rodeo and they couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s pretty awesome,” said Jackson Ford. “You get to see a lot of the competition and match yourself up and all that kind of stuff. You get to meet a lot of new people especially at the national rodeos. So that’s always a cool experience.”

“I plan on going to the PRCA and hopefully doing pretty good my rookie year,” said Kashton Ford. “I plan on going to the NFR my first year so.”

The Indian National Finals Rodeo starts Tuesday, Oct. 18 and runs through Saturday in Las Vegas.

Both Jackson and Kashton will compete Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Mountain Time and then again on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

The finals will take place on Saturday night.
