Sturgis athlete signs to play football at Mount Marty

STURGIS, S.D. – Kaden Phillips from Sturgis signed a letter of intent this week to compete in football at Mount Marty University in Yankton.

Phillips was a member of the Sturgis football team that finished 5-4 last season.

He was also named to the All-Black Hills Conference team during his senior season.

Phillips, who plans to major in business, will play slot receiver and running back for the Lancers.

Mount Marty decided back in 2019 to add football as a varsity sport and Phillips is excited to be part of a new program.

“I really like the coaches and they have a brand new practice and workout facility that I really liked and it’s really cool,” Kaden Phillips said. “They have a good strength and nutrition program. I like the town of Yankton with the lake and rivers and I like to do a lot outdoors stuff. And the thought of it being a new program and kind of being the first group to do something at that school is really cool to me.”
