Strong pitching leads Post 22 to victory over Post 320

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  Rapid City Post 320 hosted Post 22 on Friday night at Pete Lien Field.

The Stars were hoping to knock off the Hardhats for the first time since 2009.

But instead, Post 22 used a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting to beat Post 320, 7-1.

Both teams relied on strong pitching. Zach Whitesell was credited with the victory for Post 22. He went all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Meanwhile, Carter Stonecipher surrendered two runs on three hits over five innings, striking out seven for the Stars.

Post 22 jumped out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Stars cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

But the Hardhats erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory.

Matthew Hegre led Post 22 with one hit and two RBIs.

Post 22 improves to 5-5 on the year, while Post 320 falls to 6-3.

The Stars and Hardhats will host Sioux Falls East and West on May 28-29.
