Stockgrowers convention started Thursday morning with a range of guest speakers

RAPID CITY, SD – The 128th South Dakota Stockgrowers Convention and Trade Show started Thursday, October 31st at 8:30 a.m. with the trade show open.

With light refreshments in hand, audience members filed into the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn conference rooms to start the event.

Gary Deering, President of SDSGA, gave opening remarks.

“It continually amazes me why stockgrowers do what they do, and how they do what they do with all the obstacles they have to face year after year,” Deering said.

Guest speakers presented on a wide range of ranch topics- ranging from ranch management, tax assessment and legislative news.

One such speaker, Bill Bullard, CEO of R-CALF non-profit, discussed the beef industry moving forward.

“The right kind of legislation could put the right tools in producers’ hands to effectively compete against the cheaper, undifferentiated product that’s flooding our markets,” Bullard said.

The convention continues through Saturday, November 2nd.
