Stock show brings opportunity for young girls to get involved

RAPID CITY, S.D. — One of the biggest horse sales in the region takes place at the Black Hills Stock Show.

The show is one of the premier places to buy and sell top tier horses. The Saturday sale consisted of barrel horses, cow horses, trail riding horses and any horse deemed worthy could be sold to assist on a ranch.

Also at the stock show Saturday was the Miss Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo Queen pageant. The pageant is a great way to get the female youth involved in rodeo at an early age and learn life skills for the future.

“The thing that they get from it the most is learning poise, confidence, learning how to talk, they learn a lot of skills that help them for their life forward, when they apply for jobs and do any kind of personal interviews,” said Cecilia Steen, coordinator of the pageant. “It’s just remarkable how you see these young girls start out younger and keep coming up through the ranks and how they develop.”
