Stevens boys rally late to beat Central, earn berth in state basketball tournament

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  Rapid City Central squared off against Rapid City Stevens on Saturday night for the third time this season in boys basketball.

The Raiders defeated the Cobblers twice during the regular season.

But this game was more important than the previous two meetings. The winner would punch a ticket to the State ‘AA’ Boys Basketball Tournament.

Central seemed in control for much of the game. But Stevens finally pulled ahead late in the fourth quarter and held onto win, 52-51.

Dylan Pourier hit two out of three free throws with 4.9 seconds remaining in the game to secure the win for the Raiders.

Pourier led the Raiders with 15 points followed by Daniel Vigoren with 10 and Colton Hartford with 8 points.

The Cobblers were led by Micah Swallow and Elijah Williams with 15 points each. Plus Kohl Meisman added 11 points.

Stevens advances to the State AA Boys Basketball Tournament in Rapid City.

The Raiders will play Brandon Valley in the opening round on March 14 at 7 p.m. Stevens defeated the Lynx during the first game of the season, 63-57.

The Cobblers finish the season at 8-13.
