Steelheads outlast the Rush

Justin Faryna provided the only goal of the contest for the Rush

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After winning five of six games against the Utah Grizzlies, the Rapid City Rush returned home on Friday night to start a five-game series with the Idaho Steelheads.

Justin Faryna scored his seventh goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as the Rush lost to the Steelheads, 3-1.

The game was scoreless after the first 20 minutes. But A.J. White and Robbie Payne both scored in the 2nd period to give Idaho a 2-1 lead.

Then Steve McParland scored on an empty-netter with three seconds left in the game to secure the win for Idaho.

The Rush were held to just four shots on goal in the third period and were out-shot 32-20 overall.

Adam Carlson set aside 29 of 31 shots for Rapid City, which was also his seventh consecutive start.

The Rush continue to struggle against Idaho this season, winning just three out of 13 games.

Since Kansas City lost to South Carolina on Friday night, the Rush still trail the Mavericks by seven points for the final playoff spot in the Mountain Division with six games remaining.

The Rush and the Steelheads will square off again on Saturday. The puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
