State Volleyball: Wagners tops Hill City in opening round

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The state volleyball tournaments kicked off Thursday in Rapid City.

All three classes are competing in the Summit Arena at the Monument.

That means there will 36 matches taking place over the course of three days.

The Hill City Rangers are back in the state tournament for the second year in a row.

Hill City entered as the No. 5 seed and squared off against Wagner in the first round of the Class ‘A’ tournament.

Despite a great effort by the Hill City, Wagner defeated the Rangers, 3 sets to 1.

The set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 11-25 and 26-24.

Marie Peckosh led the Rangers with 11 kills followed by Karsen Kirsch with 7.

Hill City will play Parkston on Friday at 12 p.m. in the consolation semifinals.
