State Volleyball: RC Stevens, Faith advance to semifinals

Raiders sweep Brookings in the opening round

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The state volleyball championships kicked off on Thursday in Sioux Falls.

Rapid City Stevens entered the State ‘AA’ Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and the Raiders hope to leave the tournament with another state title.

Stevens squared off against Brookings in the opening round and the Raiders defeated the Bobcats in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.

Elizabeth Schaefer led the Raiders with 13 kills followed by Phebie Rossi with 11.

Stevens will play Watertown in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Rapid City Christian lost to Miller in the first round of the State ‘A’ Volleyball Tournament. The Rustlers beat the Comets by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-10.

The Faith Longhorns advanced to the semifinals at the State ‘B’ Tournament with a five-set victory over Faulkton Area, 19-25, 21-25, 25-12, 26-24 and 15-11.
