State Volleyball Championships: Stevens falls to No. 2 O’Gorman in opening round

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The State High School Volleyball Championships kicked off on Thursday with all three classes competing at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The state defending champion Rapid City Stevens Raiders squared off against Sioux Falls O‘Gorman in the Class ‘AA’ quarterfinals.

The Raiders were hoping to upset the Knights.

Unfortunately, O’Gorman defeated Stevens in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.

Sammi Sundby, Bailee Sobczak, Jayda McNabb and Kyah Watson all finished with four kills each for the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Emma Ronsiek led the Knights with 23 kills.

Stevens will play Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday at 2:45 p.m. in the consolation semifinals.
