State trooper hit by a car on I-90 in New Underwood

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — A state trooper was hit by a car driven by a 15-year-old Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 90 in New Underwood.

The 27-year-old trooper was conducting a traffic stop when the teenager driving a Dodge Ram pickup did not move over.

The trooper was hit and later refused treatment for his minor injuries.

The driver was not hurt and neither was the ten-year-old passenger. Both kids were wearing seat belts.

The highway patrol has investigated and charges are pending. Charges pending against the driver.

This serves as a reminder of the new state law that started now over a week ago, requiring drivers to move over when approaching vehicles on the side of the road.
