State Railway Museum featuring holiday activities for visitors
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Looking to get on-board with a new holiday tradition? Then check out the South Dakota State Railroad Museum. The museum currently has their annual Trees and Trains event going on through the holiday season.
A total of twenty-five trees varying in size can be found among the attractions, each festively decorated by a local organization or business in the Black Hills area.
But the real stars are the model trains.
“It’s something that was fun for the kids, but it was also fun for the adults. And that’s one of the neat traditions that we bring forth here at the museum,” Curator Rick Mills explained. “And this is the perfect place and the perfect time of year to do that.”
During the weekends through Christmas Eve, families visiting can also take their kids to see Santa at the museum.
“Santa drops in every weekend that he has time, and we get photos. They get to see the model trains and everything else,” Mills said. “Free admission if you get your photo shot with Santa. And Santa’s got a little treat for everybody. And it’s a lot of fun.”
Trees and Trains runs the next two weekends from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
