State officials consider $400,000 fence to improve Governor’s Mansion security

PIERRE, S.D. — State officials are considering building a fence around the Governor’s Mansion.

The Office of the State of Engineer submitted a document at the end of April seeking statements of interest from firms wishing to design the project. While the total budge is $400,000, the document says that number is subject to change.

It also says the project would have a fast turnaround, with construction completed no later than September 30, 2019.

The move comes as state administrators continue reviewing security needs for the residence. Gov. Noem’s spokeswoman Kristin Wileman says no final decisions have been made.
