State High School Finals Rodeo underway in Belle Fourche

BELLE FOURCHE – The first South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo was held in New Underwood back in 1949.

Seventy years later, the event is still going strong.

This week, hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls are in Belle Fourche for the state finals.

The contestants are all vying for a chance to move onto the National High School Finals Rodeo next month in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

In fact, the top four contestants in each event qualify for the National Finals Team.
