State grant brings new sidewalks West Memorial Park

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City and the state’s Department of Transportation are teaming up to install additional sidewalks in West Memorial Park.

The Rapid City Public Works Committee on Tuesday approved the roughly $200,000 project. The new sidewalk will cost the city around $60,000, and the DOT will provide around $138,000.

According to Rapid City Public Works Director Dale Tech, the funding comes from the state’s Transportation Alternative Grant, which funds bike paths and walkways across the state.

“It’s been on the books for a couple of years, so we’ve been fortunate enough to receive this funding, and we’ll be keeping our eyes open for future funding such as this.”

The project is slated to begin in the spring of 2020.
