State Girls Basketball Tournaments: Wathen scores 17 points to lead Stevens past Central

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Central and Stevens girls basketball teams squared off on Thursday afternoon for the the third time this season.

The Cobblers and the Raiders met in the first round of the State ‘A’ Girls Basketball Tournament at the Monument Ice Arena in Rapid City.

Central led 20 to 17 at halftime.

But the Raiders rallied in the second half to beat the Cobblers, 40-34.

Macey Wathen hit five 3-pointers to lead Stevens with 17 points.

Bailey Sobczak finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds for the Raiders.

Sadie Glade led the Cobblers with 11 points followed by Josie Hill with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Stevens will play No. 8 Sioux Falls Jefferson in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.

Central will take on No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington in the consolation semifinals on Friday at noon.
