State A Wrestling Tournament: RC Stevens leads team standings after Day 1

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  The 2019 State Class A and B Wrestling Championships kicked off on Friday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The Pierre Governors are looking to win their fifth straight Class A title. However, Rapid City Stevens enters this year’s tournament as the top ranked team in Class A.

Meanwhile, the Canton C-Hawks are the favorites to repeat as the Class B champions.

After the first day of competition, the Stevens Raiders pushed through six wrestlers to the semifinals and lead the team race with 88.5 points.

Pierre is second with 78 points, while Rapid City Central is a close third with 71 points. Sturgis is sitting in seventh place with 50.

Meanwhile, Canton has a huge lead in the Class B team standings. The C-Hawks have 109 points followed by Winner Area with 61.5.

Custer-Edgemont is third with 52 and Philip Area is fourth with 47.5
