State ‘A’ and ‘B’ Girls Basketball Pairings: STM opens against Lakota Tech

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The St. Thomas More Cavaliers are no strangers when it comes to playing in the State ‘A’ girls basketball tournament.

In fact, the Cavaliers are heading back to the state tournament for the ninth year in a row.

The Cavaliers secured their spot in the tournament with a 39-36 win over Vermillion in the SoDak 16.

St. Thomas More enters the state tournament as the No. 5 seed with a 19-3 record.

The Cavaliers are led by Reese Ross who averages over 18 points and nine rebounds per game.

STM will face fourth seed Lakota Tech in the opening round on Thursday.

Lakota Tech enters the state tournament with a 20-1 record.

Their only loss was to Red Cloud during the Lakota Nation Invitational.

Tobi Carlow leads the Tatanka with 15 points per game.

“I think their passing is extremely well,” said STM girls basketball coach Brandon Kandolin. “So it’s going to be some match-ups of being able to keep in front of them. To contest every shot. I think on the offensive end, protect the ball. They do a great job of getting a hand on every ball. Tipped passes. They own the boards pretty well. So it’s a team that’s built around a lot of solid basketball players.”
