St. Elizabeth Seton 4th grader wins Work Zone Awareness Billboard contest
RAPID CITY, S.D. – A St. Elizabeth Seton 4th grader in Rapid City has won a contest spreading an important message.
On Monday, the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota and the State DOT announced the winners of their Work Zone Awareness Billboard Campaign.
Rapid City’s winner is Saint Elizabeth Seton’s Khloe Willits.
Khloe’s message of keeping workers safe, so they can return to their families is what stood out to contest judges.
The contest is held each year for fourth graders because this is the age children start influencing parent’s decisions.
SD DOT Rapid City Area Engineer Mike Carlson says, “Construction workers have family too. We are part of the community and we’re trying to go out there and earn a living for our families. And we want to come home safely and we want you guys to come home safely as you travel through our work zones.”
Simon contractors are this year’s billboard sponsors. Khloe’s design will be on display on Sturgis Road next to the Lamar building for the next 30 days.
