Sportsbook Deadwood to open January 2022

DEADWOOD, S.D. — What was once Deadwood Dicks on Sherman Street in Deadwood, will become Sportsbook Deadwood at the beginning of the year.

Although it’s in a corner of Deadwood that is sometimes overlooked, owner Gerard Keating has high hopes for the area as a whole.

“Sherman Street’s the new main street of Deadwood,” said Keating. “It’s special, it’s different, and you see a lot of people coming down from the Outlaw Square. And this building’s the largest historic structure in Deadwood.”

The Sportsbook will have an area dedicated to sports betting, but will offer much more.

At 7,000 square feet, the first floor will have 90 slots, while the remaining 20,000 square feet and upper three levels will have rooms for rent, a virtual reality arcade, pool. and like Las Vegas, suites for parties – something unique to Deadwood.

“But really focused on the 20-to-30-year-old’s that are not necessarily interested in gaming all the time, and families too,” said Keating. “Nothing exists like it in Deadwood where you can go rent a room, watch sports, play pool, gaming, so it will be a lot of fun.”

Keating bought the building with his son on Dec. 8, 2020 and has already begun renovations. As one of the oldest buildings in Deadwood, there was and still is a lot of work to do.

“It was in really bad repair, near collapse,” said Keating. “And we removed over 100 dumpsters of debris out of the building that accumulated over 125 years. So it’s been a wild ride, but we’ve maintained the historic integrity, and we’re gonna restore it to it’s former glory.”

Sportsbook Deadwood will be opening it’s doors the public Jan. 1, 2022, just in time for the Super Bowl.
