Sports wagering in Deadwood to appear on 2020 general election ballot
PIERRE, S.D. — Sports wagering in Deadwood will be added to the ballot of the 2020 general election.
A release from South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg outlined the language of “Constitutional Amendment B”, which will appear on the November ballot.
The resolution, if approved by voters, will authorize the legislature to allow sports wagering in Deadwood.
Under the current constitution, certain types of gaming in the City of Deadwood such as roulette, keno, craps, limited card games and slot machines are allowed. However, this constitution amendment authorizes to include wagering on sporting events as a type of gaming allowed in Deadwood.
Furthermore, under federal law, the sports betting that’s allowed in Deadwood would also be allowed in on-reservation tribal casinos upon amendments to current tribal gaming compacts.
