Spire Sports acquires majority stake in the Rapid City Rush

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Last year, Spire Sports and Entertainment branched out and purchased a minority share of the Rapid City Rush.

Now the company is expanding its footprint in the ECHL.

The ECHL announced on Friday that Spire Sports is now the majority owner of both the Rapid City Rush and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in South Carolina.

Scott Mueller will remain on as the minority owner of the Rush.

According to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Rush team president Todd Mackin will take over and help lead the operations for the Swamp Rabbits.

But Mackin’s role with the Rush will stay the same.

Valerie Persinger, Vice President of Business Operations with the Rush, says that Spire Sports is committed to Rapid City.

“I think they really believe in this level of hockey,” Valerie Persinger said. “They believe in the ECHL. They know what’s possible to achieve at this level. Certainly, we had some success over the last year under their leadership and under them coming in. I know their looking to grow on that. That’s why they’ve taken on a new role in Greenville, as well as, the majority ownership here.”
