Spencer dam “compromised”

Flooding in eastern South Dakota has caused damage to bridges and Spencer Dam down river to be compromised

KNOX COUNTY, N.E. – According to Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KNSO), the Spencer Dam has been compromised due to the flooding coming down river from eastern South Dakota. Authorities are working on contacting people who live along the Niobrara River for evacuation purposes.

Niobrara and Verdigre Fire and Rescue are on standby.

KCSO has also issued a warning that the bridge on Hwy 281 over the Niobrara just south of the Spencer Dam has sustained major damage. In a Facebook post KCSO stated that the bridge, “It’s still there, but there is damage.”
