Special Council approves first reading of mask mandate

Mayor Steve Allender

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Common Council has passed the first reading of the proposed city-wide mask ordinance.

With the Council split 5-5, Mayor Steve Allender broke the tie vote in order to push the ordinance to a second reading.

Further action will be needed before any mask mandate becomes city law.

That second reading has not been scheduled at this time.
