UPDATE: Victim identified in Saturday morning homicide

UPDATE (6:21 p.m.): The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Destiny Dawn Rogers.

Rogers’ spouse, 33-year-old Dreau Lester Rogers, has been arrested and remanded into the custody of the Lawrence County Jail.

Dreau Lester Rogers faces charges of first degree murder, possession of a controlled substance and ingestion of a controlled substance.


SPEARFISH, S.D. — At approximately 12:48 a.m. Saturday morning, the Spearfish Police Department received a 911 call requesting medical services for a 43-year-old female at 713 St. Joe Street in Spearfish.

When officers arrived, they discovered a female had suffered a gunshot wound, and she was transported to Spearfish Monument Hospital.

She was pronounced dead upon arrival and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

A subject related to this case was located at a residence on Evans Lane, Lawrence County and detained with the assistance of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and Pennington County SDHP Special Response Team.

Police believe there is no ongoing danger to the public.
