SPEARFISH, S.D. — The City of Spearfish has closed the restrooms at city parks, effective immediately.

While the restrooms generally close in the autumn, officials cited the reason for the early closure is due to the recent vandalism over the weekend of September 25 and 26.

“It’s unfortunate that someone’s actions have impacted everyone else enjoying our parks system,” said Spearfish Police Chief Curt Jacobs.

Officials say the vandalism is making it impossible to do repairs before the regularly-scheduled seasonal closure of the restrooms. Certain parks will have portable toilets available to the public to use through October. Park restrooms typically re-open in the spring.

Anyone with information related to the vandalism of park restrooms is encouraged to contact Spearfish Public Safety Dispatch at (605) 642-1300.
