Spearfish burglary suspect caught in North Dakota

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The latest on a man accused of going on a crime spree in Spearfish.


Oct. 15

Chase Spencer, 27, accused in Spearfish burglaries, has been caught by North Dakota authorities.

He’s being held in the Williams County Jail in Williston, North Dakota with no bond, on charges related to crimes in that state.

Spearfish police continue to investigate crimes committed locally. Charges will be moved forward for prosecution in South Dakota.

Identity released for Spearfish burglary suspect

Oct. 11

A suspect in a string of Spearfish burglaries has been identified as 27-year-old Chase Allen Spencer. He’s 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, and has red hair and blue eyes.

Spencer is from Ray, North Dakota and was most recently believed to be in the Denver area. Police believe he was traveling through the region on his way back to North Dakota when the crimes in Spearfish were committed.

He was caught on camera at a North Dakota business Wednesday.

Spencer is currently wanted in the Ray area for failure to appear on charges similar to the Spearfish crimes. Those crimes were committed in April. Spencer also has an active warrant in Colorado for forgery.

Spearfish crime spree suspect spotted in North Dakota

Authorities are closing in on a man accused of going on a crime spree in Spearfish.

Police have photos and video of a man who they believe burglarized several homes and vehicles early Wednesday morning.

Police want the public to note that the video is infrared, so light and dark are reversed.

The home burglaries took place in the area of Tranquility Lane. Since there were no signs of forced entry, police believe the suspect entered through unlocked doors. The burglar took financial tools like credit cards and cash.

In the Sandstone Hills neighborhood, several vehicles were burglarized, and a vehicle was stolen outside a home on Branding Iron Drive. The stolen vehicle was found wrecked on Highway 85 in Harding County.

The suspect is believed to be in the area of Williston, North Dakota. The images below are of the suspect at a local business Tuesday and at a North Dakota business Wednesday.
