Spearfish athletes sign letters of intent

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Two student-athletes from Spearfish High School plan to take their talents to the next level.

Brock Bacon, Western Nebraska Community College, Men’s Soccer

Brock Bacon signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play men’s soccer for Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff.

Bacon was a member of the Spearfish soccer team that finished 12-0-2 this past season and earned the number two seed in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the Spartans lost to Sioux Falls O‘Gorman in the quarterfinals.

Bacon will more than likely play striker for the Cougars.

“I chose Western Nebraska because it had what I wanted to go into which is computer science and I knew I wanted to play soccer,” Brock Bacon said. “I talked to the coach and he decided to let me try out for the team and I decided to go there.”

Maddison Doren, Mount Marty University, Track and Field

In addition, Maddison Doren will compete in track and field next year for Mount Marty University in Yankton.

Doren currently competes in several events including the long jump, the 100 meter dash, the 400 meter dash and relays.

She plans to major in biology at Mount Marty.

“I had talked to the coach since probably June,” Maddison Doren said. “He made it sound like a really great atmosphere. Then I went and visited and talked to a bunch of the track team and that really brought it all together. They talked about how much fun it was and how great the coaches are. So I just wanted to be a part of that.”
