South Dakota team ropers win the first round at the National Finals Rodeo

LAS VEGAS, NV – It was a great start to the National Finals Rodeo for Levi Lord and Jr. Dees from South Dakota.

Lord and Dees won the first round of the team roping with a time of 4.3 seconds.

Each cowboy won $28, 914.

Lord is from Sturgis, while Dees is from Aurora, SD.


Meanwhile, Lisa Lockhart from Oelrichs finished 9th in the opening round of the barrel racing at the NFR.

Lockhart posted a time of 13.98 seconds.

Jessica Routier from Buffalo, SD finished 14th in the barrel racing with a time of 14.40 seconds.

Contestants must place in the top six in order to earn prize money.

The National Finals Rodeo continues through Dec. 10 in Las Vegas.

Black Hills Roundup wins Medium Rodeo of the Year

The Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche has been named the PRCA Medium Rodeo of the Year for the fifth year in a row.

The Black Hills Roundup committee received the award on Wednesday night at the annual PRCA Awards Banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The prestigious award is voted on by members of the PRCA.

The annual Black Hills Roundup will be held June 30 – July 4, 2023.
