South Dakota Senate defeats SB117 designed to help Hideaway Hills homeowners

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A State Senate bill designed to help homeowners in the sinkhole-devastated Hideaway Hills subdivision has been defeated by a vote of 24 to 11.

The bill would have given disaster victims low- or no interest loans from the South Dakota Housing Authority.

Many of the displaced homeowners in Black Hawk are still making payments on property that has been deemed worthless.

The loans called for in the failed Senate bill would have been re-paid in the same time frame as the original mortgage.
