South Dakota National Guard battalion prepares to deploy to Middle East

PIERRE, SD — 69 men and women in the South Dakota National Guard are gearing up for a 9 month deployment in the Middle East.

The 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will provide logistics and support operations at an undisclosed location.

The soldiers come from 29 communities across the state. On Saturday they were recognized by community members and politicians in Pierre.

Their leaders say they’ll continue to support them during their deployment.

“Our role is to make sure this unit is trained,” said Adjutant General Jeff Marlette, “Over the last 12-18 months we’ve spent a lot of time training them in every aspect of their duties certifying them making sure they’re ready to go . Well send them off support them making sure they’re ready to go well send them off support them through the mobilization station and support them while they’re in theater,”

Many of the service members are on their second third or fourth deployment.

They’ll now continue on to Fort Hood in Texas for specific training before they head to the Middle East.
