South Dakota home to the second best poker players in the nation
DEADWOOD, S.D. — Obviously Las Vegas hits big and produces a lot of champions in games like poker, blackjack, and craps. But did you know that South Dakota following Nevada has the second best poker players in the nation. Situated in the Black Hills, Deadwood is home to many casinos.
The Silverado held its annual Deadwood Poker Shootout in November with the champion winning a whopping $38,000. It was a three day Texas Hold ‘Em tournament with 157 entries and an $1,100 buy in. Greg Glodt, the poker room manager at the Silverado says,
“We’ve got fantastic players all around the area. For the big events it does draw poker professionals, people who make their money just traveling to these tournaments, these big money tournaments and getting in. So, knowing that you’re going to have poker professionals coming into your room, and it’s also sort of a draw for some people who play smaller stakes on a daily basis to test their hand and see where they stand against some of the nation’s best players.”
The Silverado also hosts weekly tournaments at prices much more feasible to local players and many come out to try their hand daily. It’s no wonder South Dakota produces the second highest series of poker bracelets won
