South Dakota Gives hosts Giving Tuesday

South Dakota nonprofits will unite to celebrate generosity during the first-ever state-wide giving day on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 27, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. – After all the holiday spending encouraged from retailers, Tuesday is the day to give back.

From midnight on Monday, Nov. 26 until midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 27, is South Dakota’s first ever day of giving called “Giving Tuesday.”

Nearly 400 organizations from across the state will be getting creative in asking for your support. They aim to raise awareness about their organizations and raise as much money as humanly possible in the 24-hour period to support their work.

Plus, more than $125,00 in prize money will be awarded to participating agencies Nov. 27 through South Dakota Gives, the organization leading the day.

Some local nonprofits participating are Dress for Success, Club for Boys, Feeding South Dakota, WAVI, Fork Real Cafe, Big Brothers\Big Sisters of the Black Hills, and the Children’s Home Society.

Giving Tuesday also generates more social media presence for the organizations involved.

Kelly Gibson with South Dakota Gives says, “We see this as a great opportunity to celebrate generosity, to create awareness and attention to the nonprofits that are doing important work across the state.”

Supporters are encouraged to also show their support on social media by using the hashtag #forsouthdakota on #givingtuesday.
