South Dakota COVID-19 cases rise by 83, 14 in Pennington County

PIERRE, S.D. – Coronavirus cases in South Dakota rise by 83 Thursday, with a number of new cases confirmed in the western half of the state.

According to the state Department of Health website, Pennington County reports 14 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional recoveries. The county alone has confirmed 186 total cases and 40 have recovered.

Other West River counties reporting one additional case include Oglala Lakota, Todd, Meade, Lyman, and Jackson County.

The total number of confirmed cases in the western half of the state now sits at 291.

Across the state, coronavirus cases rise to 4,793. The number of active cases in the state is up three from Wednesday – now to 1,040.

The number of patients currently hospitalized in South Dakota is 105. Monument Health in Rapid City reports 30 patients are currently hospitalized in their facility as of Wednesday afternoon.
