Soccer Semifinals: Central boys fall in shootout, Stevens girls advance to finals

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The high school soccer playoffs continued on Tuesday with the semifinals.

Rapid City Central hosted Aberdeen Central with a trip to the Class AA boys state championship match on the line.

After Rapid City Central’s Garrett Cole scored in the second half to tie it up at 1-1, it eventually came down to a shootout.

In the sixth round of penalty kicks, the Golden Eagles broke the deadlock with a goal by Jalani Peters and Aberdeen Central won, 2-1.

Aberdeen Central will play Sioux Falls Washington for the state title on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Sioux Park in Rapid City.

Washington defeated Spearfish in the semifinals, 2-1.

Meanwhile, Rapid City Stevens will play Pierre for the Class AA girls state title on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Rapid City, after the Raiders defeated Yankton in the semifinals, 1-0.

The Lady Govs are the defending state champions after beating Sioux Falls O’Gorman last year 3-0.

The match was scoreless until the 61st minute. Then Ellie Schad scored on a penalty kick sending the Raiders to their first ever state championship match.
